Shopping for Your Toddler Boy

toddler clothes

Shopping for your toddler boy can be fun or frustrating. Because they are so active, they can wear right through their clothing fairly quickly. Either that, or before you know it, they have outgrown their little boys pants and it is time to shop again!

Here are a few tips to help you buy your toddler boys clothes:

  1. Know his size. Don’t go by what fit last month – double check because they grow so fast, they may need a new size next month!
  2. Buy a size larger than he needs now.It is much better to roll up his shirt sleeves for a while than be buying one size now and another in a few months. That can get really expensive. The older toddlers can get away with rolling up their pants, but I don’t think I would want to do that in a younger one. The pants may not stay rolled up and your son could trip. Boys shirts and coats, however, are fair game to be purchases a little large.
  3. Look for Adjustable Features. Velcro is such a wonderful addition to toddler boys clothing. As your son gets bigger, you can adjust the velcro closure to fit.Another feature I love is the expandable waistline, either with elastic or with the buttons. We are all familiar with the basic elastic waistline – that is pretty self evident. However, when my son was small, I was able to find pants that had a button on the inside of the waistband with elastic that had button holes in three different places. You could stretch it into three smaller sizes. This was really helpful because my son was slim and it was hard to find boys pants that fit him.
  4. Check out the Material. Another factor to look at in toddler boys clothes is the material that the item is made from. Cotton is great because it will help keep your boy cool in the summer and warmer in the winter. It is very nice to have a material that breathes. It may tend to wrinkle, so depending on your preferences, your cotton boys clothes may need to a touchup with an iron every now and then.
  5. Look at the Style. Do you want your toddler to be the most fashionable boy in at the playground or are you more price conscious? It is good to know this before you start shopping to make your time spent as efficient as possible.
  6. Buy online when possible. While you can find unique clothing at brick and mortar stores, such as little boutiques or high end department stores,  you can also find them online. Amazon.com is a great place to find trendy toddler clothing for great prices, but you can also find very inexpensive, yet sturdy, clothing as well. With Amazon’s fabulous return policy, it is not at all risky to buy your boys pants and wardrobe online. Plus, your clothing purchase is delivered right to your front door, which is priceless to a busy mom or dad.

If you follow these six tips for shopping for your toddler boy, keeping him in clothes should be a breeze and not so hard on your wallet.
