Shopping for Your Teenage Boy

teen boy

If you have a teen boy to buy clothes for, you are in luck as there are many more places and styles nowadays to choose from.

Kids can be tough to buy for, especially teenage boys, but it is possible to make both you and him happy. The key is to spend some time finding out the styles and brands that he would like and you can tolerate. The first thing to do is to ask him what he needs and likes. Are you looking for pants? Then what kind? Jeans? Does he want baggy or fitted or even the skinny jeans that are so fashionable nowadays?

Go shopping with your teenager and check out the styles modeled in the store- keep asking questions until you can zero in on his personal style. This is your chance to guide him toward clothing items that you don’t mind him wearing. If he chooses something you can’t stand, offer him a few other choices instead.

This alone makes it worth going with him to shop, as painful as it can be. Be sure to guide his choices. If you can’t tolerate his underwear showing, don’t offer him the option of the really baggy pants. Remember, you are paying for the clothes, so you do have some input.

Of course, if you buy clothes he won’t wear, it is money down the drain. So there may need to be some compromise between you both. You might want to discuss this fact and come to an agreement at home before going to the store, so you don’t have an argument while you are there.

Teen Boy Clothing Costs

Buying clothes for a teenage boy can really be expensive, if you don’t pay attention. Be sure to have a list in hand of the clothing items you need before walking into the store. Otherwise, you may end up with more than you had bargained for. It can be hard to say no to all the great colors and styles displayed in the stores today if you are not prepared.

Shopping Tips

Check out the labels on the clothes he has picked out and ensure that the clothes can be washed easily. If they are made of cotton, check to see if the item has been preshrunk. It is not good if the skinny jeans shrink!

Where to Shop for Boys Clothing

My favorite place to shop for boys clothes is Amazon.com. You and your teenage boy can sit at home and quickly go through different styles and colors. It does help if you know his size, however. Often you can get free supersaver shipping, or if you a are a Prime member, get free two-day shipping. Many times the retailers will offer free return shipping, which is awesome if you need to return anything. Regardless, Amazon’s return policy makes it really easy to shop.

If you have the time, grab your boy and head to the local mall. Depending on the mall size, you might find an Urban Outfitters, Gap, or Old Navy. All three of these stores are expert as to displaying and stocking clothing that is considered cool and trendy. The prices not be quite as good as shopping online, however you do have the added attraction of making your son actually try the clothes on and seeing how the clothing looks and fits.

Boys grow quickly through the years, and a teenage boy may need new clothes once or twice a year. Communicating with your boy and setting a spending limit, along with making a list beforehand will make your experience a more productive and pleasant one.
